What is the difference between a Psychiatrist and a Psychologist?

There is much confusion between the work of a Psychologist and Psychiatrist.

Both professions focus on the brain, emotions, feelings and thoughts of a person. The Psychologist and Psychiatrist also work as a team when treating the same patient. One difference between a Psychologist and Psychiatrist is that a psychologist may not write prescriptions. If a patient could benefit from medication, the psychologist may refer to a psychiatrist who can then prescribe accordingly.

Psychiatrists focus on the medical aspects of mental health, such as a chemical imbalance, whereas a psychologist provides therapy.
